Marjorie Asher Grout was called home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2022 She was at her home in Knoxville, TN with her son and daughter-in-law. She was born to Alexander and Myrtle Reed Smith in Insull, KY on February 2, 1937. She was a Christian and followed the Presbyterian faith, she graduated from Bell County Highschool as Salutatorian and got her Bachelor’s degree from what is now known as the University of the Cumberland’s. Marjorie was Chief Med Tech at Pineville Community Hospital then she went to work at U.K Hospital as a Med Tech; she was on the Board of Southeast Community College, Kentucky Arts Commission and Governor’s Task Force for State parks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. David Colson Asher and her second husband, Robert Grout. Marjorie came from a large family, Buford (Barbara) Smith, Alfred (Shirley) Smith, Louise (Woodrow)Kelly, Gloria (Bill) Haupt, Brian (Ina Mae) Smith, Joy (James) Birch, Alexander (Joanna) Smith, Marilyn Smith, Bruce (Peggy) Smith, Mary Sue (Charlie) Locke and David (Gale) Smith.
Left to mourn her memory are her sisters, Joy Birch and Louise Kelly; son Byron ( Tonya) Asher; grandsons, Byron David (Whitney) Asher and Dillon Asher; great-grandson, Colson Knox Asher; stepdaughters, Georgiana (Roy) Shelby and Sharon(Joel) Goodin; stepson, David (Cassandra) Asher; step-grandchildren, Beth Shelby, Rebecca Shelby, Amy (Matt) Goodin, Christy Meredith Goodin, Jonathan (Jenny) Goodin and Evan (Oksana) Goodin; step-great-granddaughter Elayne Shelby.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home at 5PM with Rev. Shawn Allen and Al Haupt; private burial will take place at Pineville memorial Cemetery with Byron David Asher, Dillon Asher, Al Haupt, Nicolas Napier, Andrew Douglas, Jimmy Corum and Mike Martin serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are, Dr. Jerry Woolum, Dr. Kerry Woolum, Don Price, Willard Mason, Honsel Biliter, Roy Shelby and Joel Goodin.
The family will receive friends after 3PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home until the Funeral hour at 5PM. The Brooks-Durham Funeral Home is honored to serve the Asher-Grout family and ask that you keep them in your prayers.
