Brenda Cook

April 24, 1952 — October 4, 2024

Siler

Ms. Brenda Cook, 72, of Siler, passed away Friday afternoon, October 4, 2024, at the home of her daughter. She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Litha Spurlock Hooker born April 24, 1952, at White Mountain.

Brenda grew up in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, one of 13 siblings. Throughout her life, her grit and determination allowed her to achieve many notable accomplishments, with being a born-again Christian topping that list. Her Christian foundation allowed her to develop a deeply rooted faith that the Lord’s will would be done in her life. The lord blessed her with 3 children, all before the age of 19. Despite quitting school in the 7th grade, she later obtained her nursing degree from Lincoln Memorial University at the age of 36 to help provide for her family. She worked at the Claiborne County Hospital and at several nursing homes in Lexington. Brenda was well loved by the patients she cared for and their families too throughout her 30 years of service in the medical field.

She was the matriarch of her family; Brenda was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, having a hand in raising them all. She was also a devoted member of the First Apostolic Church of Middlesboro. God, her church and her family gave her a purpose in life. She was selfless, affectionate and will forever be the glue that held her family together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Amy Renee Baugh and siblings, Gertrude Hall, J.D. Hall Sr., Raymond Hall, Wonda Hall Hooker, Teddy Roosevelt Jackson, Jearlean Hooker Warren, Floyd “Reed” Hooker Jr., Efram Hooker, Johnny Hooker, Woodward Hooker, Louis Hooker Seigler, and Aleen Hooker Evans.

She is survived by her loving family, daughters, Vickie Hooker Carnes and Sherry Sizemore Weaver; brother, Delbert Jackson; cherished grandchildren, Brooke Carnes Norris and husband, David, Brandon Carnes and wife, Jessica, Katelyn Osborne, Candace Garland, Whitney Scott, Emily Weaver, Jonah Palma, Joshua Bush, Ethan Bush, Adreanna Bush, Bentley Garland; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at the First Apostolic Church of Middlesboro, 4715 W. Cumberland Ave., on Monday, October 7 at 2 P.M. with Brother Timothy Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Memorial Gardens with Ethan Bush, David Norris, Cameron Dailey, Levi Palma, Jonah Palma, and Bentley Garland serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 1:30 P.M. until the funeral hour.
