Shirley Capps age 74 of Pineville passed away Saturday March 10, 2012 at her home. She was born on April 5, 1937 in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Orliff and Nancy Tipton Roberts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a participating member of the Bingham Town Baptist Gateway Ministry Gospel Hour. Shirley began her career in Washington D.C at the FBI where she met her husband Clarence “Larry” Capps who was enlisted in the US Marine Corps. The family later moved to Pineville, KY where she touched the lives of many in her work at Bell County and Pineville City School systems were she retired. Aside from her husband, her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was a very giving person who loved to help anyone in need. In her last few years, her little dog C.C was her constant companion and brought her great joy. Shirley often told her children “I love life”, and in later years told them she “wanted to have fun”. Her children and grandchildren made sure that wish was granted.
She was preceded in death by her parents Orliff and Nancy Tipton Roberts; brother Basil Roberts and sister Barbara Miller.
Survivors include her husband Clarence Larry Capps; children Theresa Thompson and husband Bruce of Middlesboro., Cathy Capps-Amburgey and husband Jeff of Charleston, West Virginia and David Capps of Pineville; grandchildren Eli Capps-Amburgey, Bretta Carnes and husband Dexter, Breanna Capps, Kyle Capps and Kalee Capps; Special Nephew that was like a son Glenn Miller of Louisville, KY; sister Joyce Haines and a host of other relatives and friends and a special thank you to Hospice of the Blue Grass.
Services will be at 2 PM Monday March 12, 2012 at the Brooks-Durham Funeral Home with Rev. William Boyd Bingham.; Pallbearers will be Bruce Thompson, Jeff Amburgey, Eli Capps-Amburgey, Kyle Capps, Glenn Miller, Wayne Mason, Tim Pursiful and David Capps; Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Hall and Hospice of the Bluegrass; Music will be provided by Thomassa Risner. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery, Middlesboro, KY. The family will receive friends after 1 PM Monday March 12, 2012 at the Brooks-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville which is in charge of arrangements and honored to be serving the Capps Family.
