Billy Carroll

February 27, 1935 — February 12, 2016

Billy Ray Carroll, 80 of Harrogate, TN passed away at his home surrounded by family on Friday, February 12, 2016. He was born on February 27, 1935 in the Crummies community of Harlan, KY to the late Rice and Carrie (Goodin) Carroll. He grew up working in and around industries that lead him to a career in the coal business. On March 23, 1955 he married Jewell (Brooks) Carroll and together they raised three children and a special nephew. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as traveling together. Through encouragement of family, he founded BRC Construction in 1974. While in business, he made many lifelong relationships with the people of Harlan and Bell counties. He dedicated his career to the coal mining industry, while giving back to the communities he loved. He believed we should work to make a living, but also the act of giving makes a life. After many years, he retired to spend time with his family, to hunt, raise greyhounds, and pursue his favorite pastime of farming and working with cattle. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge believing in its brotherhood of men seeking loyal involvement with religious faith. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church at Ingram, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepmother Nannie Mays Carroll, and step-brothers Frank Mays and Benny Mays.
