Richard Donald “Donnie” Collett, 74, left this world and went home on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Donnie was born April 30, 1949, in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Billie Collett Sr. and Margaret Hony Collett. He had been a United States Marine, and for most of his life, a truck driver. He loved family more than anything and never met a stranger; he was loved by everyone who ever knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Gilbert and Ellen Collett and Marion and Bessie Hony; sisters, Martha Ellen Collett, Rosalee Carnes, Marie Valentine, Shirley Hensley, and Bessie Anderson; brothers, Gilbert Collett and John Franklin “Frank” Collett; brothers-in-law Harvey Valentine, Costello Carnes, Earl Dean Hensley Sr., Kenneth Anderson, Victor “Bub” Fraley and Albert Paul Valentine; sister-in-law Bonnie Collett; nephews Earl Hensley Jr., Marion Raye Carnes, Arlee Carnes, Brian Carnes, Steve Carnes and Sherman Valentine; niece Mary Lawson.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Kay Collett; son Billy Collett and daughter-in-law Mindy Collett; granddaughter Caitlin Rhea Collett; brother, William (Louise) Collett Jr., sister Imojean Valentine; sister-in-law Janet Collett; niece/adopted sister Vicki S. McIntyre. He was an honorary grandfather to Memphis Raines and Bristol Raines, he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends that are too numerous to list.
The family will receive friends after 6PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home until 9PM.
Graveside service will be on Friday December 29, 2023, at Jenson Cemetery with Rev. William Collett and Rev. Eric Jordan. The family will meet at and line up in the parking lot at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home at 1PM on Friday December 29, 2023.
