Hazel West

Hazel Philpot West age 88 passed away on March 3, 2023 at her home. She was born April 30, 1934 to the late Taylor and Nancy Collins Philpot in Bell Co., KY. Hazel enjoyed being on the road with her late husband in his 18 wheeler, looking for ginseng and hunting hickory chicken; she was a believer in the Pentecostal faith and loved the Lord and going to church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William West; brothers Andy Philpot, Ed Philpot, Peirce Philpot, George Philpot, Elmer Philpot and Luther Philpot; sisters Bertha Barnett and Florence Simpson; two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Barbara (Sterling) McDonald, Kenneth Ray (Sandra Dee) Smith and Carolyn Jane Hayre; sisters Mae West and Bobbie Lou Merdia; grandchildren Josh Jarvis, Sierra Desiree, Philip (Crystal) Hayre, Tommy Ray Smith, Crystal Carol Smith and Melvin Curtis Lewis; 8 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great granddaughters; a host of nieces, nephews’ other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 2PM with Bro. Charles Eversole; music will be provided by Ed Grubbs, Maryetta Eversole and Gary Martin; burial will follow in Mills Cemetery, Tinsley, KY.

The family will receive friends after 6PM on Monday, March 6, 2023 until 9PM at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home.
